A writer should always write about what s/he feels most compelled to write about and you are true to yourself in that regard. Your journalism in particular is heavily influenced by a stern belief in human rights and a well rooted left leaning disposition. But it isn't only the content of your stories that make you a good journalist, which is where I take issue with Molokhia's comment above. Your choice to write about the injustices befalling the Egyptian poor is your prerogative, but unlike what the shredded vegetable states, there are plenty of "native" Egyptian journalists working tirelessly to reveal injustice and corruption, doing more than just "touching" stories in fact breaking them before broadcasters and foreign media even catch wind, they just happen to do it in their native tongue Arabic.Jesterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15668958834909319918noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35137734.post-72300296423920350622008-10-13T21:25:00.000+02:002008-10-13T21:25:00.000+02:00nice writing,Stephen Franklinnice writing,
Stephen FranklinAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35137734.post-46717110949470996302008-10-05T15:57:00.000+02:002008-10-05T15:57:00.000+02:00haven't read your blog in ages and just checking i...haven't read your blog in ages and just checking in for your adventures in the motherland. I know exactly what you mean about that mentality by native egyptians. I found it really bizarre too, it's used for boat people who drown, street kids and every level of society which was not born with a silver spoon in its mouth. I would love to argue out this logic with someone one day and convince at least one person how so retarded that mentality is.

Anyway, you have a golden opportunity to report about injustice in Egypt, as you will not get the same treatment as an Egyptian reporter. I believe that red passport counts for something and if people with a certain level of immunity won't report this stuff, then there's not a chance in hell an egyptian reporter will touch this. As a journalist, you can help spread the word and this may help them- it may make things worse for them, you have to be the judge of that. Sorry to be cliche, but if you are disgusted by injustice and people's attitudes, and you want this to change then why not try being that change. If you do decide to write about this, I hope we can get a link for the published article.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03880412733283053594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35137734.post-3592628891668893622008-09-28T16:39:00.000+02:002008-09-28T16:39:00.000+02:00Scribbled - journalism in Egypt is scary, though.....Scribbled - journalism in Egypt is scary, though...I think it should be emphasised that my colleague is pretty green.
